The decontamination of pollution legacy is one of the big challenges of the twenty-first century. Beside many organic pollutants heavy metals constitute a notably hazard for humans and environment. To get hold of this problem and to choose the best methode(s) for cleaning up a specific area it is necessary to know and to understand the physicochemical processes at contaminated sites as well as the two-way influence of organic and anorganic matter. This project focusses on the influence of different heavy metal resistant Streptomyces strains isolated from the former uranium mining site WISMUT, Ronneburg, Germany on the mobility of heavy metals to gain a more detailed insight into the application possibilities of these bacteria for bioremediation.
